PROBLEM | CAUSE FOR THE PROBLEM | SOLUTION |
Unusual fan drive | Loose bolts and cap screws | Tighten all bolts and cap screws on all mechanical equipment and supports. |
Vibration / Noise | Unbalanced drive shafts or worn couplings | Make sure motor and gear reducer shafts are in proper alignment and “match marks” properly matched. Repair or replace worn couplings. Rebalancing cap screws. See drive shaft service manual. |
Fan |
Be sure blades are positioned in correct sockets. Check match numbers. Make certain all blades are as far from center of fan as safety devices permit. All blades must be pitched the same. See fan service manual. Clean off deposits buildup on blades.
Worm gear reducer bearings |
Check fan and pinion shafts end play. Replace bearings as necessary.
Unbalanced motor |
Disconnect load and operate motor. If motor still vibrates, rebalance rotor.
Bent gear reducer shaft |
Check fan and pinion shafts with dial indicator. Replace if necessary.
Bearing damaged |
Check motor/gearbox. |
|
Fan blades defective | Replace fan.
Weak Structure |
Repair Tower. |
|
Drive shaft Problem |
Repair, balance. | |
Fan Noise |
Loose fan hub cover |
Tighten hub cover fasteners. |
Blade rubbing inside fan cylinder |
Adjust cylinder to provide blade tip clearance.
Loose bolts in blade clamps | Check and tighten if necessary.
Cold Temperature not achieved |
Fan not running |
Start Fan. |
Water quantity more |
Check the flow. |
|
Nozzles Blocked |
Clean nozzles. |
|
Uneven water flow |
Check flow valves. | |
Tower in bad condition | Call “ Melfrank”.
Air leakage/short circuit |
Look for Voids/Gaps in sheeting, Fan Deck.
Fills choked/broken |
Clean Fills. | |
Very high drift losses | More water |
Reduce the water flow. |
Drift eliminators missing |
Replace or correct. | |
High CFM from fan | Reduce CFM.
Water falling from Louver side |
Too much water in circulation |
Reduce water. |
Nozzles Blocked |
Clean/Replace nozzles. |
|
Water overflowing |
Drill more holes and fix nozzles. |
|
Louvers broken or mis fitted | Replace louvers & fit properly. |
